Vedic Shastras recommend only nine gemstones:

Ruby, yellow sapphire, emerald, blue sapphire, diamond, coral, pearl, hessonite, and cat’s eye. They emphasize using them according to your Vedic birth chart, as not all gemstones are suitable for everyone. Similarly, we don’t drink all kinds of water, like ocean water; we choose fresh water that’s best suited for our internal system. Likewise, we don’t eat all foods available on earth, nor do we breathe in all kinds of air (like air from mines). Vedic astrological gemstones are not just ornamental but are used as remedial tools.

You may not realize that a drop of water or a breath of fresh air can be life-saving. Rock is the essence of the earth. When a doctor operates on us, he uses needles or a knife. Technically, those are pieces of metal. The right knowledge can transform the rock into a beneficial, life-saving element. The gemstone acts as a conductor and booster of cosmic energy, similar to a solar energy panel. The right gemstones will absorb the necessary cosmic energy to help balance your system.
